A journey through the senses to find beauty
”
What's the story? This is a documentary about all the negotiations we, as humans, have to make in order to be liked, accepted, included and wanted in our society.
The goal of this film is to unsettle the idea of what beauty "is" and what beauty "does". In the process, we hope to reclaim some individual and collective freedom around our aspirations and our notion of worth.
The story is organized in four chapters (touch, hearing, sight, smell & taste), which also represent journeys across different topologies of the human body. Each chapter will develop its own internal storyline around a specific sensory feeling and its connection with the historical, cultural and sociological components that shaped it. More specifically, we will explore how a particular narrative around each one of our senses came to be through history and what factors have contributed to the ways these narratives have either endured or changed.
The driver of the narrative is: why do we want to experience the beautiful? Why do we want to be beautiful, and what does that mean? Why don't we aspire to be "ugly" instead?
Our core tenet is that an exploration through the experience of beauty will lead us to a more authentic notion of beauty itself. In its purest form, our ambition is to lead us to a place where the idea of beauty is not as informed, in its quality and intensity, by the differentiation around our bodies, cultures and histories, but more so by the universal truth of our human experience, felt as awe quivering through our senses.
